The article states that often people are aware of the term fair trade but often do not really understand it.

Another point is that people often think of fair trade as being about agriculture (especially coffee, as the article states) however fair trade products include a broad range of categories including apparel such as fair trade jewelry and clothing.

Often these fair trade jewelry artisans are practicing traditional crafts that would otherwise be lost if there weren’t fair trade organizations supporting them. As well as preserving traditional techniques, fair trade jewelry artisans are often creating jewelry pieces as their primary source of income to support their families. Many of these jewelry artisans are women.
